Okaukuejo Restcamp is known for its water well and the administrative centre of Etosha. The Etosha Ecological Institute is also in the camp. You can recognise Okaukuejo Restcamp by the characteristic stone tower. The camp used to be a military outpost that was founded in 1901 and where the stone tower was built in 1963.
Okaukuejo is located in the south of the national park of Etosha, at just 17 km from Anderson Gate. Okaukuejo offers you everything you need during your self drive trip. Various accommodations, a petrol station, a restaurant and a shop. The restaurant and the bar offer drinks and delicious meals, while the pool provides relaxation on hot days. The water well is a centre of animal activities that starts in the early morning. Especially during the winter, all sorts of game is near the camp to quench their thirst.
After sunset, spotlights illuminate the water well. This is the best time and place to see the endangered black rhino. This mammal can often be seen drinking alongside lions and elephants. The quantity and interaction of the animals is the main attraction of the Okaukuejo Rest Camp in Namibia.
