iSimangaliso Wetland Park

The iSimangaliso Wetland Park is a unique park on the east coast of South Africa. The park is therefore on the Unesco World Heritage list. It covers more than 220 kilometers of coastline and runs from St. Lucia (about 275 kilometers above Durban) to the Mozambican border. With 3280 km² it is the third largest park in South Africa. The park combines a number of dependent nature reserves and has over  eight different ecosystems due to its size.

The park has a gigantic diversity. When travelling through this park, you will discover a completely new area each time. In the park you will find also the Ubombo mountains, grasslands and forests. On the water there are mangroves, wide beaches and coral reefs.

The Isimangaliso Wetland Park was previously called the Greater St. Lucia Wetland Park, but due to confusion with the Caribbean island of St. Lucia, the name was changed. The word ‘isimangaliso’ means ‘a miracle’ in Zulu.

Selfdrive4x4.com offers you various trips through South Africa that stop at this special park.
